Simulation of cavity expansion in sand.
Aim: what is the behaviour of a soil layer during point injection of a compound.
The compound is not entering the pores.
TEST SETUP
Diagram and photo of the test setup. The cavity expansion is simulated by injecting a
compound into the soil.
TEST
Some markers are placed on the sand surface in order to visualize the displacement.
The displacement is visualized by subtracting two images, after the compound was injected
into the soil. Image processing techniques can be used to digitize the displacement
of the markers during the test.
The pressure can be deduced from the load required to inject the compound.
The shape of the injected compound can be observed after the test.
