The Geotechnical Engineering Section of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Delft University of Technology provides education and conducts research in the field of soil mechanics, foundation engineering and groundwater flow. Delft enjoys an excellent reputation internationally for its education and research in this field, especially with respect to alluvial soils. The section has a staff of 18, including 1 full-time professor and 2 part-time professors.
The research carried out within the section is oriented to the improvement of numerical and analytical calculation methods in soil mechanics and soil dynamics, the development of experimental methods, the practical behaviour of structures in the ground and the relationship between soil and groundwater with regard to the strength behaviour and stability of soil. The section has its own laboratory for practical education and experimental research. Alongside the standard equipment, there are also more specialized facilities such as a geotechnical centrifuge and biaxial devices.
This vacancy has arisen as a result of the pending emeritus status to be accorded to the incumbent full-time professor.
